Kairos as read about and discussed in class is all about timing. Timing is crucial in many aspects of everyday life. As we learned in class, kairos is also very fleeting. Just like the personified god Kairos in Greek mythology, the right time to do anything can easily be gone.
At least once in life everyone has thought about how they missed out because the let that window of time close. We have all also experienced being at the right place at the right time. This is a rhetorical concept we use in everyday life.
Kairos is very situational in everyday life. We make choices based off of this concept all the time. College is the time to not let kairos slip by you.

The idea of timing is very crucial in many aspects of our life. In college, students will most likely take out a loan. This loan will usually come with a grace period in which you don't have to start paying that loan back and interest isn't being added. That is the window students should start paying off their loan, because interest hasn't accumulated yet. Timing in this sense is a blessing.
There are times when kairos isn't on our side. For example, asking a person out. As cliché as it seems, there does seem to be a window of opportunity, sometimes very small, in which it seems appropriate to ask someone out. Most people wait too long and end up being friend-zoned. All over the internet and social media, people have recounted the times when they missed out on that window.
Timing truly is everything in our lives. We usually gouge a situation to know how to respond to something. We know when it's okay to be funny and when it's time to be serious.

The generalization of kairos to things other than making a rhetorical argument can certainly be a useful one, especially to college students with poor time-management skills. Your last sentence rings true; college can be a time full of missed opportunities and closing doors if we do not seize the moment.
ReplyDeleteI love the examples that you used as karios because they are some of the most relatable ones I've seen thus far. I hadn't given much thought about the window of opportunity that comes when choosing to ask another person out. I definitely enjoyed this post!
